Hooper's School of Music in Selkirk offers private piano lessons for students of all ages, focusing mainly on preparatory to level 6. Teacher, Marilyn Hooper believes that the technical aspect of playing the piano is important, so she emphasizes good posture and hand position. She also teaches all the technical requirements outlined by the Royal Conservatory of Music. If you are looking for a well-rounded music education that includes sight-reading, ear training, and theory, contact us.
What Makes Us Different?
At Hooper's School of Music, I encourage participation in exams but do not insist on it. A student can take some exams and skip others, while still moving forward through the levels. I also encourage participation in our local piano festival but do not insist on it.
I strongly encourage participation in recitals and offer two per year. A pianist is often asked to play for some events, and I feel that recitals help students learn to share their gifts with others. My students are also encouraged to learn to accompany a vocalist or choir and have the opportunity to compose their own music.
